PLIABLE
TECTONICS

As a recently trained graphic designer I created Reforms as an exploratoryfurniture design project conducted with digital fabrication. The intention is to raise considerations on multifunctionality and sensitivity to our constantly alternating lifestyles

PROTOYPING

I spent a lot of time just looking. Looking at the forms, its association to other pieces and styles.

I started by CNC printing a scaled down size of my stool design. This showed me that no matter how much time I spent designing on the computer nothing was more telling than to see the object in real life. I spent 4 CNC rounds prototyping the stool until credenza design

Be sensitive to your environment, behaviors, and intentions.

Another design challenge arises within this. My solution was foam noodles.

The pieces all needed to be able to easily ensemble. The best solution I found the best way to create a piece that was structurally sound without an adhesive was friction

I realized that it would be much more impactful to ask a question and create a line of pieces derived from the question.

The more I researched the different dimensions and found similarities between a stool and side table size, stool height and width to a bench, then a bench's width and length to a credenza. Within the ambition to be malleable came more challenges.

The structure of the project and themes shifted upon the process of researching.......

The modern design and traditional color are harmonious.

For the last round of changes I focused on tying in my visual syntax which was the straight lines with the organic curves for legs and the base of the pieces. Elements that I carried onto the typeface of the logo.
